EVE ENSLER
Editor
Ms. Ensler has devoted her life to stopping violence, envisioning a planet in which women and girls will be free to thrive, rather than merely survive. Her experience performing her play The Vagina Monologues inspired V-Day, a global movement to stop violence against women and girls. To date, the V-Day movement has raised over $50 million and has educated millions about the issue of violence and the efforts to end it, crafted international educational and media campaigns, reopened shelters, and funded over 5000 community-based anti-violence programs and safe houses in countries including Kenya and Iraq. Since 1998, Eve has led a writing group at the Bedford Correctional Facility for Women, which was portrayed in the documentary What I Want My Words To Say To You. She is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Amnesty International Media Spotlight Award for Leadership.
